Forest School Awnings

Updated: Jun 17

If you're setting up a Forest School, or running one already, you'll understand the importance of finding the right shelter.

Running a Forest School, you're outdoors with groups of kids in all weathers, so you want a functional base-camp for outdoor crafts, fire-cooking and circle time.

You're looking for a free-standing shelter that's sturdy, waterproof and integrated into the natural setting of your forest school. So we've got:

5 reasons why our canvas awnings make the perfect shelter solution for your forest school.

1. Our canvas awnings fit seamlessly into a woodland setting.

With their natural-wood frame and cotton-based canvas canopy, our awnings are perfectly suited to a woodland setting.

Our awning canopies are made of a cotton-based canvas, so unlike plastic tarps and gazebos, our canvas has a natural look that is also completely waterproof and extremely durable. (No shiny plastic in sight!).

Plus the wooden frame for our awnings is made from locally sourced larch poles.

From harvesting the young trees, to the finished product, we aim to keep things as close to nature as possible. We select young trees and strip the bark by hand to reveal the pale wood underneath. We keep knife work to a minimum so that the result is a round wood frame that blends right into your forest school setting.

And we pay attention to the details.

Our guy ropes are made of synthetic hemp - for strength and longevity with a natural aesthetic. The guy rope ends are spliced by hand so they loop neatly onto the pegs. Even the wooden tensioners and pegs are hand made!

2. Canvas awnings are Certified for professional use.

Our Canvas Awnings come with structural engineer's certificates as standard, so you can be confident they're safe and suitable for your Forest School business.

The certification also makes it easier to insure your awning.

3. A shelter that's durable and waterproof

This is a really solid bit of kit. With it's sturdy wooden frame and heavy-duty canvas these awnings are designed for strength and reliability.

They have a wind rating up to force 7, making them are suitable for use throughout the seasons.

4. A forest shelter that's quick to set up

Canvas Awnings go up in less than 30 minutes and only take two people to erect.

They're free-standing so suitable for any forest school site. And you don't need any special skills to set-up these awnings, they come with comprehensive set-up instructions.

5. A canvas awning that's portable

Awning poles can be strapped to your roof-rack for transport.

Don't have a roof rack? We also offer the option to split longer poles for easier transportation and storage.

This option involves us cutting the longer pole(s) in half to reduce the length. We then attach a metal cuff so the two halves can be fitted back together during assembly. Find out more by clicking the button below:
